Diving into Brush it Off gameplay
A more in-depth look into the gameplay for brush it off

Here’s an in-depth process of what went behind in making brush it off game, Brush It Off’s gameplay mechanics were kept simple keeping in mind the young target audience.
Gameplay Mechanics
Brush It Off’s gameplay mechanics are simple but engaging. To keep the teeth white, the player must brush teeth within a time frame and kill as many germs as possible. The brush will be the controller for the player while the germs would be the enemy.
If the player doesn’t finish defeating the germs and is unable to keep teeth white, they will lose the level.
If the player defeats the germs and keeps teeth white and healthy, they win the level.

Level screen for the game
Designed the character’s mouth and germs for the level screen while Zoha, my team mate designed the background
Control scheme in the game
Our programmer, Sidhvi suggested keeping the controls easy yet intuitive so it’s easier to understand for our target audience. The player clicks/taps the brush, holds it, and moves the mouse/finger, and the brush follows. In addition, there is a pause button (at least for the prototype) in the top right corner, and the pause menu can be accessed by tapping on it.
User Interface of the Game
This is a placeholder for the game’s main menu. The game title, as well as THE BOY, are prominently displayed, and the buttons are clearly labeled. The bathroom background was designed by Zoha and the boy with the brush was created by me.

If the player wins, the screen above will appear.

The player will see this screen if they lose.
Some audio to make it lively
Our plan is to incorporate kid-friendly and pleasing music to players, making them happy. If the player completes the level, a child’s voice will make a joyful “Yay!!” sound. If the player fails the level, an evil laugh will be heard, symbolising the germ’s victory.
After we set the game play, we adjusted the time to 30 seconds which suited the prototype, we implemented the main menu and presented the game prototype through-real time gameplay to the class and our lecturers Prof. Jarek Francik and Prof. Hope Caton on 30-11-2022, we indeed got positive feedback from lecturers and students.
